KEY ISSUES IN SCHOOL EDUCATION – BY ASHOK GANGULY, CHAIRMAN, CBSE
- Provide the students with the right ambience which are conducive to learning.
- Principals should be the Chief Learning Officer of School, a good educational leader.
- Go beyond academic excellence and make a good balance between learning and performance.
- Learning should be a life-long process.
- 5 point grading system for I to VII and 7 point grading system for the rest to be implemented.
- Continuous and comprehensive evaluation to be continued till class VII.
- Introduction of education in life skills to raise self-awareness and entrepreneurial spirit.
- Introduced the initiatives that would make a difference.
- Teaching of Science should be through ‘Hands on Experiments’. CBSE has published books to help learning by doing.
- Co-curricular activities are equally important as curricular.
- Concession given to physically challenged candidates.
- Student support activities such as Olympiads,Sakshat(teleconferencing, once a fortnight)nurturing creativity in students is to be conducted.
- CBSE has an examination support system with sample question papers and marking schemes.
MATHEMATICS EDUCATION – By Mr. R. P. Sharma, Education officer (Science, CBSE)
Maths lab need not have expensive equipments. Involve the students in the process of learning and simplify their concepts of them. Students can themselves design the materials needed in the lab. Board has brought out books having activities to be carried out in the class. Projects to be done in class have been mentioned. Teaching of Mathematics should go beyond classroom teaching.
